Three Conclusions about the Nature of Light Speed

If i am not mistaken, one of the following must be true:

1) Numerous Advanced Civilizations Exist and their lack of contact indicates some sort of Prime Directive

This is the most hopeful possible scenario. It is the kind of hope that every sci-fi movie and tv series requires. It also assumes that the speed of light is a temporary barrier that will be broken with enough time and technology.

2) The Universe is large enough so that the density of advanced civilizations is not sufficient for contact.

Assuming the speed of light was not a constraint for exploration, this hypothesis assumes that due to the astronomical density of our universe, the only reason we haven’t been contacted is chance or lack of time. In practice, this is likely the most accepted and realistic solution. Heck, this density is what SETI bases the entirety of their research on. The Drake equation (which i have on my car license plate) is the critical analysis of this density.

3) Light Speed is simply Not Possible*

While this is currently the accepted wisdom, i can only hope that for the sake of humanity that this is incorrect. If so, it forever bounds us to exploration within our own solar system.

* I should note however that the definition of not possible, is simply that it cannot be done within the constraints of human civilization. For example: many have speculated about how Warp Drive or other Faster than Light engines would work in real time. The concept is that instead of the ship moving at the speed of light it is simply standing still; rather, space time moves around the ship. Now while this is fundamentally possible, the energy required to do so would be so fantastic that you would need an energy source like a black hole to be successful.

While this barely passes for being ‘tech related,’ i wrote this list down in my semiconductor physics class (read:boring), and i thought it was decent enuf to do an update about. If you guys think im wrong, feel free to leave me a comment or email me with your insight.
