It would be cool if you could turn the cartridges into memory units to store shows.

[...] It’s no secret that we love mods. And while our focus here is on a Nintendo system beyond the SNES, we can’t help but post about this excellent hybrid between technological marvels. Dubbed the Super NinTiVo, the old SNES case has been crammed full of TiVo goodness. One problem though: the harddrive has to rest outside of the case. Regardless, it’s one sweet mod.
So why? What objective was met? Combining your roommate's TiVo with your Super Nintendo into one "super-powerhouse of entertainment wonder" has the advantage of -- what? saving space? Recording your Super Ninetendo game play?

I'd like to reiterate the idea of a 2.5" notebook drive being used.

They come in up to 200GB now (a 4200RPM, you get 160GB at 5400RPM, or 100GB at 7200RPM), and the conversion couldn't be simpler. Essentially, if you're using an IDE notebook drive, you just tack on a little adapter like this one:

There are other adapters available that might take up less space, but they're really pretty basic; they simply remap the pins and provide power to the drive via a molex connector (which the TiVo would have to have for the 3.5" drive anyway).
